Shaking all over! but had the wheels balanced.
Hi Bongoers,
Can anyone help with some info please. I have had the wheels balanced, not from the hub but am going to take it into the local garage to get a check over, what should I ask them to look for in case it's not the wheels.
I am getting a whole body and steering wheel shake over 60.
Tracking?
Alignment?
Is there something else I could try?
Thanks gang

Check if the centre hole on the alloys is an exact match for the central lip that sticks out of the hub. There is no standard size for these. If they are not the same, it's possible that the wheels are not central on the hub face. You can get spigot rings to compensate for the difference.

What wheels are they? If not Mazda wheels, you may well need spigot rings.

Continued on from this post http://www.igmaynard.co.uk/bongo/forum/ ... 22#p406322 (just so the same suggestions aren't duplicated
)

You can't polish a turd - but you can roll it in glitter.

Hi Mate, used to live in Beckenham. Try the Tyre dealers in Catford on the main drag near the Aldi. Forget the company but they are very good. Needed new tyres, track and balance.fidel21 wrote:Hi Bongoers,

StevieBongo,
Funny you should say that, yes it goes smooth again when I drive over 70. Only to test of course.
Interesting, so I should get the spriggits maybe or balanced from the hub.

I found these online. Any good?
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/SPIGOT-RING-OD-73 ... 33002r4153
I guess even I could fit these, should I still get the wheels balanced from the hub?
Plus where is the power steering fluid located.
Thanks again for all your help Bongoers.

These are the sort of things you will need, but you will need to measure your own alloys to establish the I/D of the centre hole.
Balancing on-hub isn't normally needed. It in theory does allow 'perfect balance', but if you take a wheel off, it has to be re-done.
PS reservoir is under the driver's seat.

Re: Shaking all over! but had the wheels balanced.
I've just changed my alloys after 4 years or so of bad wobbles at around 70mph and the difference is amazing. There is still a slight vibration but I can go from 50-70 and (ahem) beyond with no noticeable difference for the first time.
The old alloys were 15" aftermarket jobbies and were OK if I demanded that the tyre place balanced them on the hub but after a while (about 6 months) it would deteriorate again. Had a few occasions to change tyres becasue of wear or puncture and each time it was a bit of a nightmare to get sorted. One time the wobble was 60mph which in some ways was better than 70 but obviously not ideal.
Spiggot rings may well help and of course it could be nothing to do with the alloys but it seems likely that they are to blame.
Loads of threads on here about the same issue, funnily I cant remember seeing any from people with the original steel wheels

Hi,
I've recently put on a set of 4 Mitsubishi Outlander Alloys I got off ebay - 3 were fine but one is out of true and makes the whole car shake at 65-70. The fitters suggestion was the alloy got dinged in all the icy weather and decided to offload them on ebay.. and I was the obliging mug. So could be worth checking the wheels for trueness..
cheers,
Steve

I also have bongo wobble which is ruining my bongo experience and thinking of getting some spigots but quick Q do you have to fit spigots to all 4 ? might seem a bit of a daft Q but the ones on ebay are sold singularly ?
