Bongo Fury

After getting the gearbox sorted !! Hoorah
I now have a fuel leak. I've noticed a few drips over the past few months, n wasn't too worried. But now it seems to be getting worse.
I have power washed the engine, under tray n everything else, n now is very clean. Missus took her out for a run, when it came back, i could actually smell the diesel. Looked underneath n it has pooled on the undertay, obviously dripping thru the holes onto floor. (Incidently the soaking up material thing came off the undertray so have left it off for now).
Lifted drivers seat up felt all pipes, but can't seem to see where its comming from,
the only possible place is from behind the pump itself, fan / wind blowing it everywhere. This could also be the reason behind poor mileage !!

Any ideas ?

Don't really want to put it into garage, at £45 +vat per hr, if i can help it.

Very possible its the seals on the diesel pump. Unless you want to get involved with fixing it yourself, Wheelquick in Wigan would be worth a visit for diagnosis and mending. Reasonable on charges, only do what needs doing, and know their stuff.

Do they have the parts in stock normally ? n is it a costly job do ya know !!

If its the seals, parts cost is minimal, but the job can be a bit of a pig (some, like Dandywarhol have successfully done it with the pump in place, but I know of at least one reputable Bongo mechanic who will not do hte job without removing the pump, as access is v. restricted. Shouldn't be megabucks even so, and Wheelquick are usually v. reasonable on labour costs.

Just finished having a good look around, it is the fuel pump unit.

It's against the engine/side of pump, so will need to come off.

Also spotted a fuel/oil leak coming from the turbo, the huge diameter pipe, that looks like an air intake,

But the return oil pipe to the sump is also leaking very slightly. n also the power steer

n also the power steering pipe has been chaffing on something, n has a small split too.

IF IT WASN'T FOR BAD LUCK I'D HAVE NO LUCK AT ALL

Wonder wot else can go wrong !!

It'll all turn out right with luck. Believe it or not people with small hands and good backs have managed to remove the relevant cover and change the O ring on the 'blind side' without removing the pump. But not all garages will agree to do it that way so it is probably a pump off scenario. Give Wheelquick a call. In the meantime, try putting a nice big old cloth on the engine undercover below the pump. It should stay there and will blot up dripping diesel so it doesn't end up on the road

You really don't need to have small hands to do it - my shovels take size xl motorbike gloves - you loose a bit of skin on your wrists though!

Wheel quick can't do it for another week, so thats one week wasted waiting to hear back.

It is definitely the top seal, so may try it myself. will replace opposite side too

Have stuffed a big old rag but its still leaking , so may have to park it up

Q1 Who sells the seals,
Q2 if it turns out too difficult, can someone pls give me the chaps no in Market Drayton

Dandywarhol got agreement from Lawsons Diesels in Edinburgh some time back that they would take orders over the phone and post out the correct (Bosch) O rings for those that wanted them. Not sure what the other seals are but a call to them ought to get you on the right track.

1.DID anyone get the fuel pump O ring seal part numbers yet? My fuel pump is leaking as well on my diesel bongo...
2. Is there a definate on whether these O rings are replaceable WITHOUT taking out the fuel pump???
