Broken Horn

Post by francofontain » Sun May 16, 2010 4:06 pm

For some unknown reason my horn has stopped working :cry:
I've read most of the previous threads and not being technically minded it hasn't helped. I've changed the fuse and relays tried a new horn and still no joy (apart from once when I got the wife to put her head in the bonnet to listen for relay clicking, oh did I laff as she jumped 10 foot in the air!). Fed a wire directly from the battery and the horn worked, tested the voltage from the fuse box and got a 12v reading, no clicking when horn is pressed. :oops: Looked at the wires but no idea where to start as they are all tubed up together. :oops: Is it a difficult troubleshoot and time for a mechanic??

Try swapping the relay for another one first of all the relay position is shown below but it can vary with model / year so check that as well its marked as F3-03;

You can use another relay say G1-01 or G1-03;

They appear to just suddenly stop working for no obvious reason - mine just has - I went to warn a "travel everywhere in the outside lane and ever only move over into the inside lane 10 yards before I want to turn off" merchant on Friday and -------- nothing, yet it had been working perfectly only days before that.

When it happened to mine before it was the power supply wire to the relay that wasn't working so I just put in a parallel wire between the + terminal and the relay so I'm going to have to check that is still working then check out the connections between the relay and the horns.

Yep, even thats beyond me! :oops: Did you have to unwrap all the wires to expose the correct one seems really awkward to get to.

Did you test the wire that connects to the horn for 12v.
If it has 12v and you connect it to the horn, try another wire from the body to the horn as another earth and see it this works.
Really depends how your horn or horns are wired.

only one wire and when I ran a wire directly from the battery to the wire connection the horn worked
