i hope i dont appear stupid but i had this. mine turned out to be a loose wheel, i fogot to torque it up when i changed the wishbone. do you only get the clonk when braking, have you had any work done on the brakes recently.

AS DW said, check the obvious first, is there something in the tray under the engine rolling around, under the bonnet or in the van?
If you've checked all that then start looking at anti roll bar bushes, droplinks, wishbones etc.
May help to get someone to stand outside & listen as you brake next to them.

You can't polish a turd - but you can roll it in glitter.

I had a 'light' clonk (more of a click in a way) in the past when reversing, braking, then moving forward and applying brakes. It was the anti rattle shims (or whatever they are called) missing from the disc pads (could be they drop out sometimes as pads wear I think). Anyway, I suspected it was summat like that and not serious so lived with it until, after fitting new pads and shims, the noise stopped.

Could it just be that?
