FUEL CUT OFF SOLENOID

Post by davidgreen » Fri May 28, 2010 10:21 am

Hi

I have a 2.5 Turbo Diesel 4 WD Bongo

The fuel cut off solenoid has to be replaced every 2 - 3000 miles due to the rubber plunger part being damaged and small bits of rubber disappearing into the pump - injector system - anyone know why this happens?

The Bongo has also lost conserable power over the past 2 years - i have checked the usual - fuel, filters etc as suggested previously on this site.

Does anyone know of any correlation between the loss of power and the solenoid probbles?

Thanks to this wonderful site - saved me loads in garage costs #-o

Is the rubber plunger part integral to the solenoid? Or is that where the solenoid seats? The performance issues could well be connected to a gradual amount of debris being distributed about the fuel system, brought about by the above solenoid issue.

I'm sure somebody more au fait with the solenoid will be along soon with a more detailed diagnosis... [-o<

As BDC says, I'd suspect the bits of rubber are congregating somewhere. Don't understand why you are having the rubber seal disintegrate,I'd check the are where it seats to see if that's damaged & catching it & check you are definitely fitting the right part.
You can't polish a turd - but you can roll it in glitter.
