Aircon Filter

Hi all,

just have a quick look around the bongo, now i can get about a bit better after op, noticed top air scoop not fixed "missing fixings at front of grill", anyway took it off to see whats inside, and noticed the fan, now i know this should be there before anyone starts, but should there be a filter fitted before it?
as there looks like something should clip into the intake at the point where the air scoop pushes on the the fan housing?

i eagarly await the usual help and sarcastic comment we come to expect

Hi Darkstar,

Mazda MPVs after approx 1998 have cabin filters,don't see any reason why one could not be fitted providing its the correct spec..

mines a 98 model, i just wondered about debris fowling the fan.

it should have an air intake scoop that fixes to the bonet slam panel and directs air into the fan,sounds like this is missing.

I think its just the screws that are missing,not the scoop.Got your PM..no probs..

If you experiment with DIY filters, be careful the fan is not left straining due to starved airflow. Not sure TBH what value the average DIY filter would have. Also, have I imagined it, or does the air pass through a mesh downstream of the fan?

There is no filter or mesh fitted AFAIK or visible on lushprojects diagrams.

What was all that disintegrating stuff I picked out of the heat exchanger when I cleaned up my system I wonder. It looked like the disintegrated remains of a fabric covering that was part of the unit (so might not show as a separate item), but was in such a state (and mildewed maybe?) that is was hard to tell. One things for sure, the air roars through now its been cleaned up, and the nasty smells are gone too. But I do wonder if a new Bongo might 'roar' a bit less becuase it has a fabric covering that diffuses the airflow

the stuff that grows on the exchanger is fungus caused by bacteria and thats what smelled when the air was blown by it.

Yup I'd gathered that. the mystery is what seemed to be the remains of some fabric all bound up with it, and that it had probably caused ot rot over the years.
