front heater matrix V6

Post by manners » Wed Jun 09, 2010 8:57 am

Hi all Ive just had to cut short a two week trip to Germany and Italy after three days because of a failed heater matrix am I right in thinking thats the right diagnosis, symptoms coolant dripping from black box under the dash even after four bottles of rad weld Whats got me puzzled is i could drive 300klms and not loose any coolant, then start losing it for the next 50 klms for it to stop again. After 1130 miles i put in two litres of H2O and half a ltr of rad weld but at least we got back.
Are the matrix for a '99 V6 the same as the rest and where can i get one?

cheers manners.

The way to know for sure is to either pressure test the system and it will open up either the pin hole you have or a crack in the matrix, sometimes you get matrixes do this as the crack only opens up under pressure and or more heat than normal.

If you find the feed pipes to it and bypass the unit you can confirm it is the problem, sadly if you had done this or had someone do it in Germany then you could have carried on holidaying...
