Bongo Fury

Hi,
my recently imported "Special Edition" Ford Freda came with a towbar, however the electric socket is not compatible with the 7 pin socket on the lighting board I have just bought, it does have 7 pins but is slightly larger and they all point out, rather than the in & out configuration on UK purchased ones. Is there an adapter available or has anyone switched it for a compatible socket without having the whole thing rewired?

Best to feel good you got a towbar and just rewire a new socket to suit.

Should be an easy job.

Just swapping the socket on the end to a Euro one shouldn't cost much - BUT the colour coding of the wires may not be the same.

This is how they should be wired, if the colours aren't the same you'll have to sort out which is which with either a voltmeter or even just a bulb.

I agree with the previous posters........... Now I have found a wiring diagram for Japanese 13 Pins...... You would need to get some translation to it to get the colours etc but it could/might help......... http://translate.googleusercontent.com/ ... r7c8ks_cBA

Wow! their Bongos even have space to store a spare wheel for the trailer.

Thanks all for the helpful info, I am going to have a go, but as my electrical knowledge isnt that great I will have an idea of what to say with the local bongo garage.

I seriously recomend having the towbar checked over by someone who knows what they are talking about in respect of towing, the Japanese dont really have a caravan culture, and towbars are ussually for small trailers generally a small boat, not a big caravan as we like to tow here in UK.

Wiring in a standard socket, should take less than an hour I have done it in less than 30 mins, I would avoid going near the existing at all and pickup most connections behind the drivers rear light earth from the body, and passenger side lights from the loom as it goes accross the rear of the bongo under the plastic step trim.

Hi Paul,
thanks for that, I definitely will get the towbar checked out, something I had not thought of, at the mo I just want the electrics for a lighting board for bikes, but have plans for a trailer/ jetski and even possibly moving a caravan from seasonal pitch.

You can easily work out what the wiring does with a multimeter or 12v tester, just get someone to help by turning on the indicators, lights, brakes etc and mark the wires up, then attach the new socket to the relevant wires
