Anyone got a 2.0 petrol Bongo?

Post by openeye » Tue Jun 15, 2010 9:30 pm

What are they like to get parts for?

Do they share the same engine as any other Mazda? (thats easy to get parts for in the UK?)

Any common problems to be aware of?

Thanks!

I've got a 2.0L Petrol (only for 6 months mind) and would recommend it. My local garage knows Bongo's quite well and says that there will be no problem getting parts for it. As Dandyworhol says, it's the same engine as the Mazda 626.

The only thing I would say is that it's a bit on the thirsty side but from what you read on this forum, it's not much (if any) worse than the 2.5l Diesel. If you drive it sensibly then it's fine, if you rev the a**e out of it, it will drink petrol.

We have had ours (2003 AFT) since Dec 2008, we have had no problem in getting general service parts either from bongo specific suppliers or general motor factors. As Dandy correctly points out it is a 626 engine. The more bongo specific items such as cooling system hoses, matrixes, electrics etc are common to 2.5 petrol, td and 2l petrol, so again all the usual chanels there.

Engine also goes in some of the commercial mazda vans of older and similar age, though most of these are diesel the petrol ones had the 2.0 in. Engine is really simple nothing exciting to watch for, though under powered for a big vehicle so dont expect to be in the outside lane too often.

Agreed that when heavily loaded and on a decent incline the speed falls off....but we can sit happily on the motorway at 70 all day, with the revs just below 3000. If you cane it the fuel economy drops off sharply when the revs go above 3500. Horses for courses.... if you want a sports car the bongo is not for you anyway. IMO. We have absolutely no regrets at buying the 2l petrol.
