hot power-steering fluid

Post by skater » Tue Jun 29, 2010 10:12 pm

Had Bongo idling on drive while checking stuff, long enough for coolant temp to get to normal
( 11 o'clock ).
Everything ( touch wood ) fine but the power-steering fluid reservoir was too hot to touch for
more than a few seconds.
Didn't do anything with steering while checking other stuff.

Hopefully this is normal [-o< but surprised me.

Any thoughts?

Think of having a pee but at a hundred times more pressure - you're pipes would get hot too! 8)

Perfectly normal :D

Only difference is - if you smell our p/s fluid and it smells sweet, that's good. If you smell you p** fluid and it smells sweet, thats not good

I like the way this has gone slightly off topic

its a trademark of the Bongo Tribe - long may it thrive

PS - back on thread, I checked my PS fluid recently and found it dark and not sweet smelling. Rather like ATF is supposed to look/smell when it needs changing (and have just changed, although it was in good nick!). Note to self, must attend to PS fluid.

Hi
Again ....too much information...When I first "joined Up" I was told to sniff the dipstick on the transmission...Step back...take a look at a Bongo owner fiddling with a footbrake, a gear stick, with the engine running and sniffing a dipstick on a gas station forecourt, and ask yourself what an onlooker might think...."" Önnist...I wuz sniffin for burnt cork"    and you ask if the membership is SANE??????
Cheers
