Sinking feeling!!!! Brakes.

Post by cal » Sat Jul 03, 2010 11:45 am

Morning all.
Owned Bongo for three years and first time I have needed to ask a question on here.
I have what seems to be worn master brake cylinder seals causing the brake pedal to sink slowly to the floor if steady pressure is applied. Question is, can I replace just the seals or am I better replacing the whole front unit, also is there any other Mazda shares the same part. Its a 2.5 diesel by the way, two wheel drive.

Just had a look at the manual. There appear to be 2 piston assemblies - primary and secondary.
The diagram suggests that the seals on BOTH of these assemblies are integral with their respective piston, and if so, the answer to your question is no. Looks as if new piston assemblies are needed.
I'll post the diagram if you think it will help.

They are the animals - item 2 and 3, bottom diagram on Kirstys post

Parts kit listed in lushprojects - http://www.lushprojects.com/bongopartsm ... mgno=.html - click on the + symbol on the left for the part no & make sure it's the right one for yours, not sure if there's a difference depending on the vehicles age, this was taken from 01/11/97 - 31/08/99.
May well be cheaper to get one from a scrapper complete though?

Thanks for that folks, looks like scrapper would be the best option. Any suggestions of who would be worth contacting? Appreciate the help by the way.

Stick your rough location in your profile Cal, via the User Control Panel link top right of this page.

Its easier to help if we know where peeps are.

PM Ebygum32 on here (breaking bongos section) is breaking one, otherwise all the usual suspects, Allans, Bongobits, Bellhill, Wheelquick, etc, etc.
I think Mountaingoat may know of someone breaking bongos north of the border? may be worth a pm.
