Loose drive pulley on the crankshaft

Post by mandywhitelaw » Sat Jul 03, 2010 9:32 pm

Hello all,
After much investigation of a clattering/rattle noise (like unadjusted tappets but much louder) from the front of the engine block I discovered the twin drive pulley on the crankshaft to the alternator/water pump was loose to slide along the shaft and was the cause of the noise. The aircon pulley is tight on the shaft. What can be done to fix this? Also there is a very small amount of play on the water pump pulley which I`m not sure is contributing to the general noise from the engine, is this OK? Water pump, aircon and alternator all turn freely with no play or roughness.

Not sure if its posted anywhere but I`m in Cornwall

New crankshaft pulley required - its a damped pulley and the adhesive bonding will have perished

Dunno -you could try some of the advertisers on the site - a second hand one might have, or end up with the same problem as yours
