Strange Noise from engine
Hi,
Having finally found the issue re my coolant loss, I have just had a new water pump fitted and while he was at it a new cam belt and drop link arm.
While driving home, I instantly noticed that there was a certain 'growl/gurgle' to the engine that was not there before. There is also a new 'clatter' when the engine is turned off. Admittadly I did have the centre console removed still, but the new noise is noticable. The growl/gurgle is not consistant with the engine idle and comes and goes with short gaps.
Could this be air trapped in the system, or something not replaced propoerly? On his own admission he had never done this sort of work on a Bongo, but I had no choice but to use him. I gave him the link to your 'bleeding a bongo' which he said he followed.
Does anyone know what this might be as I have just paid almost 500GBP for the pleasure. I need to go back to him about this and some ammo would be really helpful.
Regards
Joel

I'd certainly make sure it's bled properly, you don't want gurgles going on & make sure the belts haven't been tightened too much, could be the alternator bearings/waterpump grumbling.
You can't polish a turd - but you can roll it in glitter.

Thanks Kirsty,
He said he watched your video on youtube. I watched it too, very interesting and good to put some names to faces.
How would I know whether the bolts on alternator or water pump are over tightened? If its something loose, can you imagine what it might be taking into consideration the work he has done.He said he had to remove the intercooler pipes to access the cam belt.
regards

Belts not bolts
, should be 10mm of deflection on the longest run of the belts & you should be able to turn the belts through 90 degrees.

Hi,
Have checked the belts and all seems fine. Could there be anything with the tension of the cam belt?

Could be sumat to do with the tensioner if it hasn't been replaced or tightened up right I guess? Can you not get it to someone who knows bongos if this guy isn't sure?

Re: Strange Noise from engine
Hi,
I am taking it back to the guy in the morning.
I would like to check that he has ordered and installed the correct components. Are there universal part numbers for:
Cam belt kit
Water pump
When driving not only is there this gravely rattle that I can hear clearly form the cabin, but also a deep clonking sound when I go over certain bumps. Could there be a hanger from the exhaust system missing. Would the work he has done have interefered with any such fixings.
I going blXXdy mad here.

Re: Strange Noise from engine
Clonking is probably more likely to be anti roll bar brackets/bushes or droplinks, common issue, I see you had 1 drop link fitted - they should be replaced in pairs.
Not sure about a universal part number, check the compatible parts database or lushprojects - http://www.lushprojects.com/bongopartsmk2/ click on the index on the left of the relevant drawings to reveal the part number.
