Fuel Pump bleeding

Post by affaj ekac » Sun Aug 08, 2010 8:52 pm

Hi all,

This is my Virgin post having read loads of good advice since getting Bongo in April. I have had to do loads to it as it sat for 18 months and every time I get there another little Gem pops up. I thought I had it last week when it was running fine but after changing the fuel strainer on the top of the pump it has power loss again. If I switch the engine off and then straight on again I get it back for a little bit. When the Bongo ignition is turned off a whizzing noise like an air loss comes from the pump. I am thinking I need to bleed the pump. Does this sound right and how do I do it, I am not the best mechanic but this site seems to help!!!!!!!!!

Virgin in distress needing help of any bongoites!!!

Should be self bleeding, check you've not got a leak at the banjo filter after doing it. as it's on the suction side it will be sucking air in. If you've done anything else, go back & check it's all tight.
You can't polish a turd - but you can roll it in glitter.

check the air vacuum pipes that are on the pump, sounds like not a fuel leak but an air leak imo

Hi Supreme Being,

Just checked fittings and they are all tight. It will just crank over now and not start up.

I had changed banjo filter last week and it was running fine then started losing power again, now after checking it again left with it just cranking over.

thanks for swift reply.....I love this site....even having a bongo that doesnt work makes me feel part of the bongo gang!!
