Hi tom,
Do you use veg oil?
It could also mean that your inlet manifold is needing a clean out.

Hi tom,
The inlet manifold

This is on the off-side of the engine(drivers side). To clean it out properly it would need to be removed .

Your exhaust won't help, as it's directing the exhaust gases into the turbulence you get around the back of the van, instead of away from it - downward pointing would be better. This turbulence sucks all the muck onto the van

Just look at the back after driving on a wet road - they don't fit rear wipers for nothing

Are you parked against a wall etc when you start it up.
Oily spots could just be the condensation when you start the van.

I meant to say, change the fuel filter.
Cheapest option, ebay and others have cheap filters, cheap by price and not by quality.

What about the air filter?
Could be running rich, tends to soot up a bit.

Filter 4 months. Veggie 3 months.
"It all stated when veggie was used".

It could be residue in the exhaust if exhaust is usually smoke free!
