Hi
Why was Stonehenge built???
I would have thought it was obvious

It was an advertising hoarding for a fast-food chain serving it's signature dish...Machenge donkey burgers. Stonehenge was at the centre of a crossroads at a very busy series of trade routes much like Picadilly Circus,in fact it has been thought that the original name was Rockadilly Circus, and the area around was a trade hub for National and International comings and goings. The blue stones signified this international accord, and evidence suggests that they may have been highly polished, lighting up like a neon sign at night with the reflection of the trader's fires. The Sarcen stones were, in fact "Saracen Stones" indicating that trade was taking place with the inhabitants of Syria and North Africa, who came up from the south in boats using the latest dug-out technology. The Saracens brought with them the Myrrh range of polishes ( Now abbreviated to Mer), which had additives to maintain the lustre of the shiny Welsh Preseli Blue Stone. On the way , the Saracens would pick up Gucky footwear from Italy, from the ancient family of Italian shoemakers (now known as Gucci as it sounds posher) . The Henge-goers liked a bit of style in those days, and Italian clothes (known as clobber) were definitely the "In" style. Over the millenia , our stupid interpretation of clobber means that we think it means the act of hitting...hence , for generations we have thought that early man dragged his missus round by the hair after clobbering her with a club....crikey...if that was the case, he wouldn't get "any" on a Friday night after popping out to the Henge for a wee drink. Evidence suggests that domestic violence is a more recent addition to mankind's habits.
As we know, there are Stone Henges all round England and Europe, showing that the Henge Burger chain was franchised , and these donkey burgers were served on square wooden platters, which were cleaned off with abrasive wood shavings and chippings, and local slang would refer to a square meal of burger, cleaned off with chips...so...burger and chips a Big Macs (machenge) refers to the Henge range of culinary delights fronted by the main trading area in Salisbury plain
Music was popular at these stone meeting places, and was later referred to as rock music, and bands of troupers would entertain at "Rock Concerts" , the singers often coming from Wales, were the wonderful voice of the Welsh could be enjoyed. One such troupe came from the very hills where the blue stones were quarried, and they were known as Elvis Preseli, a name adopted by a latter-day heart-throb of the 1960's
Thus we see a sophisticated race of folk who went out enjoying food and drink, and anyone who didn't go out Henging was thought of as being a bit daft, or Un-Henged
Cheers
Helen
In the beginning there was nothing , then God said "Let there be Light".....There was still nothing , but ,by crikey, you could see it better.
