mot fail - failed on a broken rear roll bar bracket :(

Post by triathlondave » Fri Oct 08, 2010 8:14 am

:(

failed my first Mot on a broken rear roll bar bracket :(

so off the road till it's replaced

where's the best place to get a new one. As need someone to have stock and be able to post it out quick.

would people change both brackets and both bushing's at the same time? As the bushings and other bracket are good apart from the broken one. Have speed bumps all the way down my street :(

Many thanks
david.

Most recommend doing both bushes and both drop-links at the same time while you've got it all in bits

for fast service, i'd recommend JAS on 0845 6808 007, get 2 new bushes and brackets, only held on with 2 14mm nuts on each side, 20 minute job.

for the cost......I always do....... you will find that replacing one item connected to the Anti Roll Bar, weakens the other components and you WILL replace the rest in the near future.....

Image is the bracket ( around £5 each)

Image is the Bush (around £5)

Image is the drop link ( around £13)

Thanks for all the reply's and advice.

will order the parts today and hopefully be back on the road early next week.

will let the garage do it as have no where to work on the car safely. Plus work don't like dirty hands.

Quick question do I need to buy new nuts  and bolts?

seem to remember miss fix it talking about stainless steel one's a few months ago. Plan to keep the bongo for a good few years.

Not worth the hassle of s/s IMHO as decent (mild?) steel ones should last about the same time as droplinks when - as Mike says - its best to replace the lot in one go anyway, because the brackets fail due to fatigue not corrosion. s/s may suffer even more than mild steel in this respect.

You shouldn't need new nuts (not bolts) provided you don't have v. badd rust seizure. Best to give them a good spray with penetrating fluid/oil a decent time before trying to undo them, and use a 6-sided socket, not a 12pt star type, for best grip. And use an extension arm with the socket. But the garage will do all that I'm sure 8)
