glow plug problems, please help

hi,
iv owned my old shape bongo for nearly a year now. its never missed a beat or over heated or done anything to upset me at all.

but, lately it would start then the revs wouldnt hold strong. they would dip off and go up and down. but then as it warmed up there would be no problem.

so i changed the glow plugs.

now the big problems have turned up!!!

i put some cheap glow plugs in and they were no good at all. they lasted a week before they burnt out. so i got some ngk one and fitted them. but now the van reallly wont start.
so i put a make shift multi meter on the rail as the plugs were warming up but i didnt read at all. in fact after i noticed it didnt do anything i touched two pieces of wire together and they should have sparked between the rail and chasis.

so i saw another topic about this and someone said about a fuse being by the - end of the left battery. but all i could find was a wire connector.


please help because im already £87 down and have a car that wont start

I think the relay may be the problem.

as said at beginning of that can you hear relay click as you turn key

iv got the driver seat up and there is a click near the rocker cover

The fuse is this one;

and the relay is here marked as B2-04 zoom in for exact location, three possible locations but all in the same area;

just taken the relay off and opened it up. i understand what it is and does now.

but it looked alright. im putting it back on now and im going to listen out there for a click.

ok so,

relay works fine and fuse by the battery doesnt seem to have any signs of damage.

but the glow plug rail doesnt have any power at all.

the rails not shorting is it?

with a simple test light you can track the juice to see were it stops

feed wire could be broken inside

what is the thing that blocks the way to the glow plugs?

its all the block connectors etc. that makes a clicking noise when you try and warm the plugs.

only thinking because when changing the plugs you need to push them aside pretty hard to get to the last plug.

I bet its the fusable link

Try and bypass the fusable link and test for juice at the rail again

happy happy days.

the van is running lovely.

the glow plug rail touched the injector pipes and shorted out the fuseable link. i got a new in line fuse from halfords and it fired up straight away.

thank you for all your help as i wouldnt have been able to fix it with out the forum
