Front Fogs and reversing lights out - Linked?

I've just noticed both my factory fit front fogs have stopped working and my reversing lights on both sides too. I've checked the bonnet 15amp fuse for the front fogs and its fine. It could well be coincidence and I will check the bulbs of both reversing lights tomorrow when its light, but was wondering if anyone might point to a link, fuse or relay that I should check too. The reverse beep sounds as normal.

Its just been through its MOT too - are reversing lights in the MOT?

The fuses for the reversing lights are on;

and as you say the Front Fogs are under the bonnet, there really isn't much else in common other than the Main 100Amp fuse which you might have noticed if it blew

Hi Geof - thanks for the reply. Are you sure that is the fuse? I thought that fuse (9)was a 15 amp engine management system fuse. There doesn't seem to be a fuse described as reversing lights in the description of the fuse box I've got.

I will check the fuse you suggest though.

After spending some time searching on here, people have mentioned the relay on the passenger NS wing as a suspect culprit for fogs failing and also taking out the whole of the tail light section.

Is the best way to check failing relays swapping them over? Or can I use a multi meter - bearing in mind little or no electrical knowledge.

I wonder if the relay might be the cuplrit - also dodgy wiring under the main battery has been mentioned. Over the weekend I fixed a poorly connected side repeater - so perhaps I disturbed something as I was fettling about in that area.

Well actually the lamps can be operated via two different fuses, just to make life difficult, now you mention it!
Here they can be operated via 2nd Row Left most fuse;

and here via the Gearstick and 2nd Row 2nd Right fuse;

So its worth checking both fuse 16 / 9 and 15 / 10 choose the numbering convention you prefer!
Actually reading the small print the upper one is Only for Manual Transmission vehicles the lower for Auto's.
Lots of the fuses have more than one function and I'm trying to find a sensible way of listing what fuse does what function and what function needs which fuse, but the list gets rather long!

Ah as to relays, its normally quicker to substitute as it can be a pain to get to the tags on some of them to put a meter on
The Fogs relay can only be operated when the TNS relay is operated, not sure that it is very likely that a failed Fog relay would kill the TNS lights though, unless the coil went short circuit - not impossible but not very likely either. More likely a failed TNS relay will stop the Fog's coming on however.

Yes the TNS stands for Tail, Number plate & Side lights in the wiring manuals !

And the answer is....no they are not linked!

2 bulbs for the reversing lights had blown and the front fogs was traced to a corroded wire that has been identified before - just under the main battery - fiddly to get to and repair, I ended up taking out the headlight unit to fit a new connector.

So all sorted - thanks to previous posts and g8dhe.

Cold hands now though.

Excellent news other than for the temperature bit Must admit I only poked me nose out the back door and decided that it didn't quite look like snow yet so came back in!
