Air con leak

Post by stuc » Wed Jan 19, 2011 7:33 pm

Hi new problem today, checked air con-empty,on air com machine everything seemed ok holding pressure, but when we regassed system up it was ok for a couple of minutes then started leaking on o/s under qtr panel above the joint/connection i suspect there is a condensor inside that panel to run the rear is this correct and would it be easy to rectify.

Mine leaked from up inside. Managed to get a 2nd hand unit fitted in. Cost was about £220ish for unit and regass. I hope they topped up coolant as well because if memory serves that has to come out as well. The small rad for the rear heater I mean. Never had any issues though, bar the fact the price was more than quoted which left me smarting a bit and I had pulled it all apart for easy access for the job as well

There is a diagram on lushprojects which helped considerably and if you strip as far as you can go then to get the clips of the plastic housing I ingeniously used some blu-tak on string, pushed on to clip with screwdriver the flipped it off with another. Worked brilliant but lost one because I dropped it after taking it off from blu-tak

yes there is a seperate aircon rad in the rear, they rarely leak unless they've been disturbed or played with, the piping outside under the car is much more likely to be the suspect, strangley enough there are 2 sizes of connector and i've seen a few cars with the smaller connector bodged into the bigger hole, i think they came from the factory like this. Getting access to the rear unit can be a pain, esp if you have a side kitchen fitted, in which case its really not a nice job,
