Changing Alternator.. and belts

Hi All...

Following recent flat battery and other minor issues I have got myself a smart new (reconditioned) Alternator for my 2.5 diesel Bongo. The old one
was only putting out around 13 volts and appeared to be on its way out. New belts are on order and due to be delivered shortly, I thought it only sense to
replace them at the same time.

My question is, Can this be done entirely from inside the cab? Being over a 'certain age' the time has come in my life to let others crawl about underneath
vehicles, especially in January/February!

I am resonably proficient with spanners so the change is well within my limits, I just don't fance lying on my back on cold concrete!

dont recall any reason it should not be possible

i would get the a/c belt to and do all 3

Hi swerve,

Make sure that your battery is fully charged after fitting the new alternator.A flat battery can cause the rectifier to blow.

Yes the job can be done inside the cab
1.Disconnect battery
2. disconnect 12mm nut holding battery strap to alternator and unplug, someteimes remove 10mm nut holding loom in the way, you'll prob find you have to unplug oil sensor and aircon wire too.
3. undo 14mm nut just behind alternator pulleys that locks the adjuster and remove, undo 12mm adjuster and remove whole assembly.
4.below alternator from the back, 14mm nut, undo and alternator should be moving, push alway in and remove belts, with bit of wiggling you can draw the long retaining bolt out from underneath, can be tricky cos its jus about where the aircon belt is but you can wiggle around it,remove alternator and re-fit the new 1 in reverse order.

Thanks for all the advice.

Belts arrived in todays post, new aircon belt as well so while I am in there I will change all 3 belts!

Now all I need is missfixit to pop up with advice!

to do the aircon belt you need to feel down to the front of the tensioner (in front, sort of below alternator), has a 17mm nut which u slacken a few turns, move up wards and there is a 10mm adjacent to the pulley which you loosen to lower the tensioner wheel to remove the belt
