Air con
Why does it use more fuel using the aircon driving at slower speed than faster speeds

Blimey that's news to me - I didn't know it did (though I can guess how it might). What's your evidence out of interest?Bogmonster40 wrote:Why does it use more fuel using the aircon driving at slower speed than faster speeds![]()

Hi
The only thing I can think of is when it is ticking over, and you switch on the air con the engine revs go up,using more fuel.
Also maybe something to do with air flow on the system.
But I do know its a costly thing to use
Cheers.

Re: Air con
I can see that when the engine is working more at higher revs (as it may do around town going up and down the gears) it may be wasting more effort on the aircon compressor than it requres to have expended on it, and that as a result more fuel may be used than when cruising in lockout at 65mph.
But how on earth you could pick that element of fuel consumption out from all the other factors in order to measure it....is all but beyond me

I have to say that I have no trust / belief in those sort of sites / messages - they are created by an Editorial team brainstorming all the ideas they have previously ever heard of and just regurgitating them with no attempt to verify the reliability or authenticity of the quotes.

Hi
Geoff....
I'm with you on that....article like that are full of holes...I've aired my opinions on journalists too many times...they'll write anything for a buck!
I live by a lot of the things my Grandma used to say:
Her expression "believe none of what you hear , and only half of what you see" covers this situation
I had some friends who travelled round America in a hire car...turning the aircon off and leaving the windows open to save money...stupid idiots...should have gone and hired a couple of mopeds if money is that much of an issue
Cheers
Helen

In the beginning there was nothing , then God said "Let there be Light".....There was still nothing , but ,by crikey, you could see it better.
