engine under tray cover for sound deadening

Post by lipoyl » Sun Feb 06, 2011 4:48 pm

Hi
I was looking through the forum at sound deadening and came across one thread that mentioned having the plastic engine under tray or cover. I have one (not sound deadened) which is situated from where the suspesion wishbone mounts are (used for jacking points in front) to the rear but it appears there should be another tray which attaches to this tray and continues to the cross member and underneath the engine sump. I have scanned the web and this forum for images of other Bongo's under carriage but found none to compare. Can you take photos and post to me/forum or if you knowof this tray then where can i get it from. The previous threads i searched said it reduces road noise into the cabin.

Hi when i got my Bongo when the snow was here, my undertray came off with the weight of the snow being scooped up by the undertray because the front section was missing. I refixed it back up but binned the sound deadening cos it was loose and all ripped. I didn't notice any difference in sound levels as the car is very noisy anyway. The previous owner rang up and said he had found the other bit of undertray in his garage so i collected it and put it back on. I am fitting discs and drop links on a ramp this week so if i remeber i will take some photos underneath as i dont fancy going underneath in the rain today.

Thanks all - I knew there should be an extra part there and you all have now confirmed this. I am keen to reduce any small level of noise travelling into the cabin, either through conductive vibration or through localised noise through the air. So if anyone has the part 56-111A in http://www.lushprojects.com/bongopartsm ... no=.html#7 or know where I could get one, I would be glad to pay or swap bits for it. I am located in Southampton and will travel.

Mine was taken off at wheelquick last week to check for leaks and left off as I am going back for waxoyl to the underside and it is definetly noisier in the cab without it.

I don't think the engine tray will make a lot of difference to noise coming directly up into the cabin. But it does cut down on the reflected noise from a hard road surface. Its also good protection for the engine bay I reckon. It is noticeable how much softer the noise from my Bongo is when standing on grass and ticking over, as opposed to standing on a tarmac surface, which shows how well sound can be reflected from a hard/non-absorbant surface (blades of grass act a bit like an anechoic chamber methinks) 8)

I put a photo on last year of the complete undertray but it will probably take some finding :)

Mine's off at the moment while I source and fix an oil leak, but because of the leak it is very oily and dirty, it's going to be a fight to get it back on and a dirty one.

I tried Gunking the sound deadening side last night, but it didn't work, it's still sodden with dirty oil. Anyone any ideas on how to clean it?

Hi Bin Bongoed today i degreased the sliding door running recess with degreaser foam that i use to remove oils etc from bicycle chainset. You could try this, but also a good soaking with a lot of washing up liquid and a little water in the bath (before someone lays out the night lights and scented candles tonight) and a light scrubbing with the luffa! :D
