Could be a damaged wire in the rubber bendy thing in the door hinge area :)

I'm going to get the door panel off tomorrow and have a poke around I think, there's a bit in the clinic section that says something about damaged wires and the judicious use of insulting tape, cheers :D

Has the mechanism been getting stiff lately, do you regularly pump wd40 into your locks to keep them lubbed and finally does the key go all the way in ?

Well I've had a poke and a squirt and finally I can lock it on the key but not on the fob, I think it's something to do with the inside door button, when I disconnect the bar attached to the button (which is connected to another bar with a little plastic connecter) it works on the key but when I connect the bars together it won't work so I think the mech that the bar go's into is broke, raining now so had to sack it til dryer times

Well, after much searching and reading I'm another step closer, I believe it's the remote central locking actuator that's the problem, which (I think) is fitted in the door aftermarket for remote unlocking/locking, now to get it off and see if it's fixable or needs a new one
Getting there slowly but shirley...

if you think it is the actuator for the remote locking system before you strip it out are the batterys in the fob in good order ?

if the are flat it may not be sending the signal to the control box to operate the actuator if it is the actuator i will have a spare one by the weekend as i have a remote locking kit on its was to me with 4 in and i will only need 1

I think the problem is that it's stuck on because when it's conected you can't press the button down physically it's stuck up, pretty sure it's not the fob as I have two and it's the same with both, last time the batteries went it wouldn't unlock not refuse to lock, after a bit of prodding I think it's either a wire that's rubbed or broke or the actuator is stuck on, thanks for the offer of an actuator I'll let you know if I need one, top man :D

The actuator for the remote locking if an after market fit should still move manually, even if inoperative...

It could be possible from the symptoms posted by Khani that the rod/rods from the actuator connecting to the factory manual system maybe caught somewhere.. I guess the actual rod connector has jammed, possibly on the window mechanism in the outer edge of the door preventing the lock button on the door from being pressed down??
Cheaper by comparison to a race horse...

Fixed! Woohoooo!!!! Gave it a strip down and upon further stringvestigation the rod from the button was fouling the window guides, I removed the actuator and redrilled the holes and moved it about an inch across to clear the window guides and it's fine again, happy days :D
Many many thanks to everyone who replied, luv yooooooo!!!!!!
