central locking dynamos.....2.0lt petrol
Just been told that the above have been removed from the passenger door and the rear sliding door of my (potentially) new bongo, thus rendering the central locking pretty much non-existent, apart from the drivers door, and the tail gate....does anyone know how easy these would be to get hold of here in England?, not really sure what they are exactly, and dont really fancy having to fit a complete new after-market remote C/L kit.......

Then then the vendor sorts it or walk away.... Sounds like the solenoids have been removed... Ask yerself why & what else is missing???!!!

The vendor has been straight up with me.....he told me he removed them to put into another bongo he was selling, because those ones had packed up!.....he seems like a honest guy, has a pretty good reputation.jaylee wrote:Pablobongo wrote:Just been told that the above have been removed from the passenger door and the rear sliding door of my (potentially) new bongo, thus rendering the central locking pretty much non-existent, apart from the drivers door, and the tail gate....does anyone know how easy these would be to get hold of here in England?, not really sure what they are exactly, and dont really fancy having to fit a complete new after-market remote C/L kit.......

Just wanted to know the cost/availability of some replacements

The sliding door solenoid is a *@$% to replace and requires the whole mechanism to be pulled out and unlike the rest of the doors, getting a cheap aftermarket 2 or 5 wire solenoid to replace it isnt gonna happen! as already said it'll be costly to do unless you find a bongo being broken. the passenger door can be easily done by anyone competent with tools and a £3 2 wire solenoid

Fair enough.. So, i own 2 vehicles..? One has a problem & i remove a part from one to put into the other... It would be easier & more labour saving to get replacement parts for the original vehicle with the problem...Pablobongo wrote:The vendor has been straight up with me.....he told me he removed them to put into another bongo he was selling, because those ones had packed up!.....he seems like a honest guy, has a pretty good reputation.jaylee wrote:Pablobongo wrote:Just been told that the above have been removed from the passenger door and the rear sliding door of my (potentially) new bongo, thus rendering the central locking pretty much non-existent, apart from the drivers door, and the tail gate....does anyone know how easy these would be to get hold of here in England?, not really sure what they are exactly, and dont really fancy having to fit a complete new after-market remote C/L kit.......

Thanks guys, I guessed it wouldn't be that easy to sort.....might just try to get him to sort it......he says that the price reflects this problem, and to be fair to him, it seems more than reasonable money....but it doesnt have leccy blinds, and no remote C/L....and no AFT, dont know if this is more of a sideways move!!, on the other hand, its a very handsome looking Tin-Top!

Paul,
Not meaning to put a "downer" on your potential purchase... Just hate to see you stung..
I haven't seen the vehicle after all!
It would be convenient to at least lock the tintop in one go?
Did it also have a non working soft closure??
Sorry..

No, the soft-closure is working fine.....in fact, everything is working fine, except the C/L, which does operate the drivers door and tailgate!, it has reasonable mileage for the year (2001), and the interior is fine, no tears or burns...It really is just this issue with the locks, I just like everything working as it was intended to!!

But it does have chrome mirrors

Re: central locking dynamos.....2.0lt petrol
It does look a corker! & it could in theory be possible to fit an after market remote locking system? (Though NOT tying in an after market solenoid with the existing passenger side loom, a prolonged pulse burns em out & the Bongo CL system has a constant voltage!)
Thinking off the top of my head though... Using a four door locking system, It may be possible to fit an after market remote locking system with a solenoid in the drivers door to activate the drivers door which in turn locks the tailgate... Now possibly the clever bit.. Pick up the wiring for the passenger side & sliding door by cutting the loom from the controller & patching to the new CL remote box wires... Then in the sliding door, fit a third solenoid from the locking loom from the pins in the door??
Total closure on remote?? Maybe??
It's a challenge!
We need Geoff on this one!??

The existing locks all appear to be 2 wire ones according to the diagram;

I've no idea on how difficult they are to get at so I would be very happy to take 321Away's advice as I'm sure he has done them!

Re: central locking dynamos.....2.0lt petrol
£250 would see that fixed and have remote locking on it at the most. But with help from the guys/gals on here, a lot less, I would try the fix it angle or drop me £300 so I can get it done angle and see where it lands.
The worry would be though, what else has been nicked off it.

Might try that approach, nothing ventured, nothing gained!!......Jaylee, I am assured that he was in a tight spot as another of his bongos was due to be picked up, and he had an issue with the locking on that one, hence the donation from this one, although, I would have thought the replacement parts would be easy enough for him to get, as he has "contacts" in Japan......lpgimports wrote:£250 would see that fixed and have remote locking on it at the most.
