Need a new exhaust

Had my bongo over an inspection pit today and it looks as if I need a new exhaust! :shock: Got holes in the mid section and back box and it's blowing a bit (didn't even realise! :oops: )
So, having done a few searches on the forum, seems that the stainless steel option is the way to go. 8) Got a couple of leads - Tony Banks in Leeds and a few in the midlands - MIJ performance and a couple on ebay.
I could organise someone to fit one as these people deliver, but it seems they do prefer you to go to them for fitting (which isn't a problem) as there are 'options' regarding tail pipes, etc. and what kind of 'sound' you require your exhaust to make!!

So, any recommendations?? Feel free to PM if you prefer! :wink:

I have a stainless twin pipe backbox for sale, about 15 months old :wink:

Does it replace the whole standard back box from the join over the back axle?

Ours was from MIJ in Walsall. Bought on eBay from their eBay store, from memory it was about £230.00 + VAT delivered, and when I rang about fitting it was £230.00 + VAT fitted, and they did it that very day.

Bonus is you can stop for lunch at ChipMasters (WS2 8RQ) as you'll pass their place on the left from J10 M6 for chips tossed in flour before frying, giving a delightfully unhealthy battered feel :shock:

Ours doesn't seem to have much in the way of baffling in it, which doesn't bother me in the slightest. They will do the silencer to whatever 'quietness' you want though, quiet, mid-sport or full-sport as their website advises. When I got there, there were mostly BMW M3 and Nissan Skylines on the ramps, it's that kind of place :wink:

I had a mild steel back box fitted not long ago from wheelquick £65 :shock:
The old one lasted nearly 16 years so i should get a few years out of this one.
Lost without my Bongo.

I had the same problem and when i weighed up the cost of a new mild steel zorst compared with stainless system there was only one winner.
I ordered one from MIJ through Ebay, spoke to them first, ordered it on a Wednesday it was delivered that Friday. Its was £249, easy to fit, infact the hardest bit was taking the old one off. Coupled with EGR blanking plates and a K&N air filter (also ebay, E9280 @£32) its made a big difference in smoothness and improved the Mpg a bit as well
No contest really....stainless.

I'd definitely recommend MIJ and to get it fitted by them, they've done plenty of Bongos so if you've got the winter-pack valve thingymibob they know the drill for blanking off the airpipe etc :wink:

If you do put a stainless steel exhaust on - its needs to be reported to you insurance company. Why? Well its "not standard equipment" so if you are with the likes of Direct Line, RAC or one of the other more "mainstream" insurance brokers you will need to do this, otherwise, yes you will not be covered!

Don't believe me? Have a search in the insurance section and you will see that I am not the only one with this problem. In my case Direct Line went from £420 is to over £600 because of the SS exhaust. Now with 2gether (for my sins of SS exhaust system) for the same price as Direct Line were with much lower level and more restrictive insurance.

I just so wish I had just gone for the mild steel option.
