I've been having intermittent problems with my autogearbox not going into 4th gear. Fault codes i'm getting are 16 and 62. EGR position sensor and Overrunning clutch solenoid.
Today i took it to a Autogearbox specialist in Pontypridd. He took it for a spin and couldn't find anything wrong, which i new as i's explained it was an intermittent fault. He seemed reluctant to change the solenoid pack because of this code 16 i keep getting. Any advice on what's causing this code 16? Or will just changing the solenoid pack solve the problems. There is another gearbox specialist fairy local i might go to and see if they can shed any light on it.
It's Diesel 4wd 1996.

Have you cleared the codes? If not, clear them (& make sure they have gone) then drive it until the light flashes again. Re-read & see what you get, if both come back you will know they are genuine, if only one comes back the same applies. I am not familiar with the EGR code but solenoids can be an issue.

Yep, we cleared the codes and they came back after the latest HOLD episode - so new solenoid pack required I think. Just need to find someone to do the work and fit it within 60miles (ish) of Cardiff.Alacrity wrote:Have you cleared the codes? not an impossible job, but without ramps it can be messy,(actually WITH ramps, its still usually messy lol) gives you chance to clean filters and pan and replace some transmission fluid at the same time.
BTW the 62 code refers to 3-4 shift solenoid

I have 62 down as an overrunning clutch solenoid, however that could be the same as the 3-4 sol as the designations vary. I have it in Japenese if anyone can translate it!!

ADS Automotive could do it they are about a mile from Parson St Station in Bedminster which might be handy. Good Bongo specialists.Dr.Jekyll wrote:Yep, we cleared the codes and they came back after the latest HOLD episode - so new solenoid pack required I think. Yes, what DrJekyl said really. He helped me out a bit with the codes. I've been onto South Wales Transmission in Pontypridd again told them what i want but they seem very reluctant to want to touch it. Seem a bit useless to be honest. I'll see if they finally ring me back.
I'm having real trouble finding someone to do the work for me in the South Wales, Bridgend/Cardiff area.
