Vitrifrigo C39i (or similar) thermostat question

Post by Dodgey » Fri Jun 10, 2011 3:52 pm

Hi - I'm helping a friend get his Bongo sorted and it has a Vitrifrigo c39i (from what I can tell by comparing photos on the web) with a Danfoss compressor. (It's got the bulge inside under the freezer bit so I assume the compressor is internal)

What I was wondering ...

a) The internal thermostat dial has two of the points on the dial marked as A1 and A2 - the rest of the markings are just --- marks like you'd expect on a dial. What are the A1 and A2? I assume they are marked for a specific purpose

b) Is it supposed to sound "like a fridge" - it works fine and I get a nice frosty freezer cpmpartment , but all I hear is a fan going somewhere behind, I don't hear that traditional compressor noise. I assume/hope it's just a very quiet compressor. I have however heard the sound of runnign fluid, which leads me to believe that the compressor is simply very silent, or I'm msitaking it for fan noise.

Thanks in advance

On a 39i, the A1 / A2 marks mean nothing.
You will hear a fan, and sometimes the 'rumble' of the compressor - however, if you are getting a frosty freezer compartment, it sounds as though its working OK.
You should find if you leave the door shut, that after about 15-20 mins it will reach temp and shut down for a while. If it keeps running continuously when say it is set to 2/3rd position, then i would check the thermostat etc.

Thanks - appreciate the info. was baffling me the A1 and A2 :-)

Never heard the compressor, but as you say, if it's working then it must be working, so to speak :-)

btw - I've made the assumption its a 39i based on pictures on the web. I know for a fact it has a Danfoss comprossor.

One of the things that surprised me when camping last weekend was when I turned the stat down, from A1 to the next one down (anticlockwise) it went onto low power alert (the flashing external led). When I turned it back to A1 all was well. I will say the LB is not in the best condition. My mate who owns the van has no electrial knowledge and runs it flat frequently (I'm currently installing a solar panel and regulator for him and I've got the LB on an optimate for a nice slow charge)
