slight knocking from the rear....

Post by dext924 » Mon Jun 20, 2011 5:21 pm

I while ago I put a post up from a little knock that could be heard from time to time. I looked at all the suggestions given, revealing nothing. So, it has been carrying on now and again, not all the time, but now and then I can hear it from the back.
I was tell this to a REME VM and although he knows nothing about Bongos, he said it might be the suspension. He mentioned there is a rubber mount at the top of the strut, and this might be worn, causing a little bit of play.
Is this a possibility?? :?:
Would this cause a slight knock??

Have you replaced droplinks & anti roll bar bushes & brackets? This usually the problem, just looking won't necessarily reveal anything, not expensive to do, just make sure the nuts are well soaked in penetrating oil, they tend to be very tight.
You can't polish a turd - but you can roll it in glitter.

I had someone look at those when I first noticed the problem, and he said they were still good. They got done as it came in to the country last Jan.

Could they need doing again?

I might just do them again for peace of mind...

Is there anything in the strut theory?

When you posted this in October last year http://www.igmaynard.co.uk/bongo/forum/ ... es#p453754 you said you were going to get the bushes done, if you didn't do them then those and/or the droplinks are the most likely suspects, but it could potentially be anything, unlikely to be the rubber bush at the top of the strut IMO as it should be in compression with the weight of the bongo on it . Try getting someone to rock the bongo while you listen underneath from the side (being careful obviously, don't get squashed).

thanks missfixitt

I will give that a go, and I guess that it wouldnt be a wasted job if I got them replaced in the end.

Dext924. Just reading up on the your other topic Kirsty posted the link to... :-k

Your quote from; "The knocking seems a bit plasticy if that makes sense, as though something is knocking on the trim some way. "

Might be worth checking (If fitted) the rear speakers are secured to the mountings behind the panel..?
A screw that holds the pocket on the rear panel is not missing/lose causing it to knock on the mounting point.??
That it's not the back tailgate knocking rubber stops missing??

Just ideas.. :D
