welding query
whilst giving the old bus a bit of a look over today i noticed a small crusty ( 50p sized) on the bottom face of the n/s sill. while the welding itself holds no fear for me (you get good when you own a suzuki samurai!!) i just wanted to check with the collective braincell that disconnecting the batteries will be sufficient to prevent damage to any electrics/electronics (the most technical thing on the "zuk" is the flasher relay!!)
Re: welding query
do recall a thread were extensive welding had burned the rear heater motor
Re: welding query
As long as you disconnect both battery terminals you will be ok, though you will have to remove any items that could be affected by heat transfer or if they are in the way.
Do what you like.Like what you do.

Re: welding query
the patch is on the bottom of the n/s sill more or less level with the back edge of the front door. i dont think there is too much there to worry about, as far a heat goes. best did the magic wand out now!stuc wrote:As long as you disconnect both battery terminals you will be ok, though you will have to remove any items that could be affected by heat transfer or if they are in the way.

My preferred solution, clean the rust up and lead load the sill.
To infinity and beyond

Been there.............That small crust is just the beginning, spent many an hour welding fresh air chasing rust around panels.

famous last words but it does seem to be the only bit to give me any concern. owning a suzuki jeep stands yoo in good stead , i can sniff it out like a pig on a truffle hunt!!! it'll get a thorough clean up , a flush patch repair , 2k red lead , several coats of paint then waxoyl/stonechip. that'll keep it quiet....more famous last words!!
