airconditioning

Post by valentine48 » Mon Jul 11, 2011 2:26 pm

Hello,
I wonder if anybody could give us a bit of information about the air conditioning in our 1996 unconverted Bongo.

When the system is re-gassed, the gas runs out and after a high pressure test with nitrogen the garage has told me that the leak is coming from the rear 'radiator', which they told me is located above the 2 A/C pipes just in front of the rear wheel arch on the drivers side. I didn't know that there was a radiator there but the garage tell me there is and that it can be blanked off. Presumably this would cut off the rear A/C, but I can live with that.

Can you tell me if there is a rear radiator - I thought the only radiator was at the front, but is there in fact one in the rear? If so, is it safe to cut off the pipes leading to it so long as they are welded up properly, as the garage says any welding must be able to stand up to 20 bar pressure - is this correct? And if so, where is the best place to blank them off?

Our difficulty is that we live in France and there is not a garage here who have any info at all about the Bongos, and they will not go any futher with it.

thanks
liz

Hi
You can actually buy the bits to blank the rear aircon off. Quite a few are blanked when they build cupboards in!...Try contacting some of the well established Bongo workshops..Allan's, Bellhill, Wheelquick, and Ian Taylor, to name a few...They may be able to pop the necessary parts in the mail. (You'll get the e-mail addresses from the list of dealers on the Front Page.
I order a lot of parts from the UK, as we live in the Devil's Playground (Bulgaria)....the other side of the country from the Black (market) Sea
Where abouts in France are you...we may be looking to move?
P.M. me if you have difficulty with what to order
Cheers
Helen
In the beginning there was nothing , then God said "Let there be Light".....There was still nothing , but ,by crikey, you could see it better.

your info is spot on. there is a rear aircon matrix and some do blank them and remove or leave them in. the systems are seperate so you can disable the rear with no effect on the front.
some i know just fold over the end and weld. it does need to be a good weld as the pressures involved are high.
blank it where ever is best for you, it doesnt matter.
