Can anyone recommend a good mechanic/garage in North London?

Post by miss_wisdom » Fri Jul 29, 2011 2:01 pm

This is my first post, so please bear with me.

Can anyone recommend a good mechanic/garage in North London?
I live in Muswell Hill.

My Bongo (called Lard!) seems to be having temperature problems and I'm not sure what the cause is.
I unfortunately hit a fox a few weeks ago, there was no visible rxternal damage to my vehicle, but since then the temperature needle has been shooting right up and I've been losing radiator fluid. There is also a sporadic odd noise, when the engine is running, that sounds like a gurgle/air lock.
My dad has suggested it might be a leaky pipe or the head gasket might have gone, but he is not a Bongo owners & he lives hundreds of miles away, so can't check for me. Also, I'm not a technically savvy person :(

I'm not currently driving Lard, as I'm scared I'll make things worse.

So any suggestions of where to take her, or what I can easily check/try myself would be much appreciated.

thanks,
Stella

you may have damaged your rad and just topping up water only works if you only lose a small amount of water, beyond that the system needs to be bled, my advice would be to try and minimse the use of the vehicle til you get it looked at as continually overheating the vehicle you risk causing much more damage like head/gasket

You need to find where the coolant is leaking from, a cooling system pressure test should help there, remedy that & get it bled properly, you are doing right in not driving it.
You can't polish a turd - but you can roll it in glitter.

Thanks 321Away & missfixit70

I've read the overheating factsheet pdf and so I'm going to try the suggestions in there.
Ideally I need to find a local mechanic to take her to though.

Since moving from Yorkshire to London, I've used Lakeside Garage, in Wraysbury, Middlesex, but that is too far to drive with this current problem :(
