leaking fuel pump

hi all , just found a leak in my fuel system , 2.5 td engine , its on the drivers side near the front about half way down the engine , i think its the pump there is a gold coloured domed cap held on by 2 10mm head screws , dripping when engine is running , is if fixable or do i need a new/second hand pump ?

Fuel pump seals are a common issue, they can be done in situ if you've got nimble fingers there's a fact sheet in the members area, loads on th forum & seals available in the Bongo shop.

as kirsty says, a common issue.
dirrectly opposite this dome on the engine side of the pump is a plate of the same size,held on with 2 10mm bolts, there is a seal behind this plate also, these are usually done at the same time. it could be leaking here and running underneath to the point on this side as it is lower.

Hi,its quite easy to find out,Stop using veg oil and see what happens,if the leak is coming from the distributor head seal it will almost stop, when you stop using veg oil.

I think if the seals are on their last legs anyway, by using veg oil this MAY speed up that process, good to know that it's not just veg oil users, not that I'm saying it's good your seals went Wonkanoby

Hi wonkanoby,

I often wonder what our Japanese Buddies used in these vehicle before they came to GB.

iE Soya/ Rapeseed/ Peanut/Sunflower etc etc,I think Soya is Fav.

What do you think.

hi just fitted the new seals , seems ok now , hands are a bit sore tho from being jammed behind the pump and a bit roasted by the warm engine , oh and thanks for the advice once again, don't know how i would manage with out you guys and gals

Hi,
I had to have mine done. I suspected the use of cooking oil but the numbers who have had this particular peice of keyhole surgery without using cooking oil make me believe that the original seals have a lifetime of 15 years or thereabouts.
