We have had our V6 for 3 or 4 years. It had aftermarket alloys when we got it and always had a slight vibration around 60-70 mph. Nothing major but slightly irritating. A bit of light investigation and chat over the years only ever got the diganosis 'they all do that.....'.

Well, if this is you, fit spigot rings! I read somewhere on here that the slight vibration is due to the new alloys not centre-ing exactly on the hub due to the differences in their diameter. This is indeed correct and, after some careful measurment, I ordered some 73.1 – 67.1mm rings from Spigot Rings R Us 5 Cedars Business Centre, Avon Road, Cannock, Staffs WS11 1QJ £4.74 delivered.

Basically, they took half an hour or so to fit (easy job) and the van runs absolutely billiard table smooth now. One of the best £4.74's I've ever spent!

Is that size of spiggot ring for the Bongo or for your specific alloys ? mine does the same, vibrates around 60 to 70 mph.

67.1 mm is the correct bore for the bongo

the other size will depend on your existing rims

Had the same problem on my V6 which arrived with rather nice aftermarket alloys. Spigot rings were a complete cure, but a difficult diagnosis.

Surprised the Japanese do not fit these when they change their wheels. My alloys are far too nice for anyone to have whipped the original wheels at the auction. Do they have such low speed limits the problem is never noticed?

I've changed to original steel wheels and still have the vibration. Spigot rings are definitely necessary when the wheels have been changed to a different centre hole size, but not the only cause of this vibration.

When my Bongo comes back from the hospital I'll be getting all the wheels re-balanced as they've not been done since I put the steels on.

Had to have mine made as the wheel diameter was 71.6 and I couldnt find any or they were out of stock. The lads at work turned me a nice set of steel ones.

I had problems with vibration from the front wheels after fitting new tyres a year and half or so ago. Initially the tyre fitting place said it was due to missing spigot rings (bit odd as the previous tyres on the same rims with no spigiot rings did not create a wobble). Got the rings and fitted them, wheels re-balanced, still the front wheels would vibrate around 60 mph. Had them re-balanced at another place, still no good, after a third re-balance somewhere else they seemed a bit better but still not 100% and I gave up. Then recently I rotated the tyres from back to front which resulted in a massive steering wobble. Subsequently had the front tyres re-balanced again (in France as that was where we were) and now all wobble is gone. Looks like it was a combination of missing spigot rings and incorrect balancing that was creating the vibration.

I think I read somewhere on here that someone else had this problem and it only disappeared once they had their rear wheels balanced. You mention 4 re-balancings in your post. Was it all 4 wheels each time, or did you just get the front two done? If the latter this would be consistent with the other thread and would suggest that the rear (driving) wheels play a large part in what appears to be a front wheel wobble.

Chipvan - I got some vernier (measuring) calipers from a pound shop to check mine. Not great quality, but an ideal tool for the job.

Wondering if this might be my problem. I have a slight lift (high spot) on one rear tyre but not enough to worry the tyre shop and they balanced it out but lately its been horrible. I get a rotational booming noise coming from the rear end and steering vibration up front. I am on the verge of changing the tyres but I dont want to change the rims as they look awesome (legzas Euro spec 18's).
