If you can get a new one for £120 I would go for it.. :)

PS do you have a link for the new one at £120.00.

A new one @ £120 is a very good price...

Even the dealers sell reconditioned (remanufactured) ones for that and more ..

if you buy one make sure its a 90 amp one as the lower amp ones (ranger) may fit but will not last.
do a search on here there is loads of recent talk about them.
the original hitatchi (green band painted on them seem best). but there will be new ones equally as good.
be carefull though there are some really low amps ones around.

my advise if you have a (green) banded hitatchi one is to try to get it reconditioned locally.or buy an hitatchi one off a breaker.

Beware the reconned ones too TBH, apparantly there are not any decent parts available to fit directly, & they don't seem to last, I've got a blown replacement rectifier in the bongo somewhere if I can find it when I unpack, that didn't last a year.
One of the guys that sells on ebay based in Plymouth sells them for £135 delivered, but they are only rated at 80 amps despite the fact he's selling them as 90 amp, it's all very well them saying it chucks out more, they all do, it's rated as it is for a reason [-X http://www.igmaynard.co.uk/bongo/forum/ ... reewheeler
Cheap doesn't always mean it's a bargain unfortunately, currently there's a bit of work going on with "Albaston starter & alternators" (Just outside Plymouth) to find a way of reliably reconning the Hitatchi ones or finding a decent sturdy 100 amp replacement, may be worth giving them a shout on 01822832925 (I think), they refurbed Freewheelers Hitachi one for just over £50.

Most alternator/starter refurbishers are reliable. They depend on repeat business and word of mouth recomendations to survive. The best thing is to find a local repair shop, there is one in almost every town and go and talk to them and you will feel a lot happier. look in yellow pages you will find them in there.

if you look on the bongo news section there is a new supplier/recon that is endorsed by bongo fury, maybe worth a call.

That's the very peeps that are selling underrated alternators & tried to insist that Freewheeler gave them his old alternator in return for that price, despite the fact that the online listing says otherwise - see my post above.

Thanks

I was doing just that earlier this evening  Wecome to the forum :D Bob was very impressed with the attention to detail & the fact you guys spent most of the day getting it to fit perfectly  , have you got a price sorted out inc p&p for a 100Amp replacement alternator?
He also told me you'd taken over the business & the telephone number had changed to 01579382391. if you put your website link in your signature people will be able to find you, click on the user control panel top right of the screen.

Bob told me all about you today

I will update my signature with all the relevant details in the morning when Iam a bit more awake

I will have the full price including P & P in the morning as well. I am working on it at the moment. I need it to be as sensibly priced as possible. I am not in business to rip anyone off, all I want is for everyone to get the same service that Bob has had so far. We didn't mind spending a bit of time on Bobs unit, after all he did make the tea =D>

Thanks
Mike
