Leak from below head gasket on 2.5TD Diesel 4WD

Post by MaxBasher » Mon May 14, 2012 4:38 pm

Ok so I'm no engine expert and just got my local garage to have a quick look under me seats but they are no Bongo experts so am hoping for some advice here.

I started to get a burning oil smell at the end of last week and when I looked under the drivers seat, I could see some oil had leaked and was obviously what was burning.

The mechanic has said this is probably coming from one of the oil ways that sends the oil up to the head. The actual head is certainly all clear of oil, it's just underneath the main head seal.

Assuming that makes sense, should I be worried about this? They have suggested giving it a good clean and getting a spray from Halfords that seals minor oil leaks. However I plan to clock up a few miles traveling in the Bongo this summer so if there's potential for a problem, I'd rather get it sorted now.

Oh it's a 2001 2.5 TD 4WD if that helps at all. And I can add pics if that would really help

Thanks
Dan

Sounds like EGR gunge which is quite common. Have you got a photo showing where the oil is?
