I have this as a rear light above sliding door. I'd like to know is this standard that I can buy from club shop (on their return) or is this something the previous owner put in ??
The bulb is gone now so in need so something that will shine a light on my girls so I can see what they are up to

I've got the same style lamp as you and I find the light is very bright. If yours was dim, then it was probably on its way out. As its a fluorescent tube, you won't be able to fit an LED replacement straight in so you'd be looking at some serious modification or replacement of the complete unit.

I've just fitted one of these as a replacement for my tailgate light. The adaptor just fits in place of the bulb and the adhesive backing allows it to be stuck on top of the original.

I've ordered another couple as they are seriously bright and very cheap. What I'd really like to know is if there is a switch built into the sliding door that would allow me to mount one above said door with the light coming on when the door is opened.

That'll replace a conventional festoon bulb in the lamp by the tailgate, but you'd have to rip the inverter out of the fluorescent lamp to make it work.
Weebrian, you could always tap into the wiring to the existing switch on the sliding door. Don't have colour codes to hand, but you should be able to figure it out from the wiring diagrams.
