Aircon refurb

I can't get my aircon up to pressure for very long and it only blows marginally lower than environmental temp. If the seals are perished would I see any evidence of leaks or does the refrigerant just evaporate when exposed?

And how much am I looking at for a specialist to replace a set of seals and regas the system?

With 2 kids under 5 I don't think I can get through long summer trips without it....

If you take it to any air con specialist, they are supposed to do a pressure test on the system before they are allowed to re-gas it. If it does not hold pressure, then they will advise you according and if there is no obvious sign of a leak, they can use a green dye which is easy to spot if it's coming out of a joint. Common failure point is where the pipes go into the rear heater unit. New seals are only a matter of pence to buy, although if the compressor or evaporator is shot, then it starts to get more expensive.

Will get it seen to. Eventually. Timing belt due for a change this summer, too. So given the choice between being a bit sweaty on the motorway, and completely stranded beside the motorway, I think the aircon will have to wait.

I was hoping the old DIY regas kit from Halfords would repressure and plug the seals but the fix hasn't lasted the winter.

Any idea what sizes are needed for the 'O' rings? Been wanting to sort the a/c since last summer, but can't find out the various sizes needed around the system.

Does this actually work? Have bought some "R 134A '" A/C Sealer, claims to seal leaks. Has anyone had any success with this?

If you can find out the sizes, you may be able to make a saving by getting them online. I was lucky enough to get the ones I need for free from a mobile A/C specialist in the midlands who has been mentioned on here a few times in the past.

Regas will be about £80 ive just been quoted (I am having refurbed pump fitted on Friday by Discount Trucks)

Might be worth contacting this guy in Brighton he does a call for £45 but might be worth asking if he can fix seals first. I had him out a couple of years back and he seemed quite competent, and feeling the temperature coming out of the air con. at the moment might need to call him again as its not quite as Icy as it used to be a while back. http://www.brightonautoair.co.uk/
