ELECTRIC BBQ/HOT PLATE

Hi all!

Observed a caravaner using an electric bbq/hot plate "thingy" yesterday! Never thought to ask what make & where purchased. So...do you use one and what are your views?

Did not look too big, on 3 legs, user fed the elect lead through the caravan window.

Have had a look on Amazon & various other websites since coming home and see that there are mixed reviews on various types. However, am thinking that it would be a good/economical way to cook when on an EHU.

Hi,

We use one & they are a great idea. We bought ours from a camping & caravan suppliers approx £18 to £20.
I've done everything from breakfast fry ups to stir frys on ours. For eggs we use a silicon ring that sits on the grill and stops the egg running all over. As the one we have has a lip all the way round its great for all types of cooking hence stir frys. As theres only the 2 of us we some times use it instead of a BBQ. Once the burgers & bangers are on the go I throw on my sliced onions to cook in the fats from the meat.
The none stick on ours is great and it can be wiped it clean afterwards with kitchen towel.

my dad uses one all the time. they are really great and can do just about anything on them. he got his from spain but over the weekend another bongo friend got his from lidl. lots of camping places do them. well worth it when on electric

Have recently bought a Prestige electric wok. It is the best thing yet .Does every thing as it has a flat bottom and high sides and a searing setting.

Hi Hazel.if youre thinking of investing some dosh on cooking gear,seriously think of getting a Cadac (the smaller model - travel chef or safari chef) ....superb bit of kit,different attachments, ie,bbq,griddle,wok,grill etc,and gas powered so no need for EHU hence more portable.

Hi all!

"Thank you" for your responses and ideas. As I am off travelling from next week have ordered what I think will be suitable from Amazon. Will give feedback as to how good/bad it is on my return.

Brian - yes, I considered a Cadac but I prefer to use CC/CCC sites so my thinking is that I may as well make use of the electric I am paying for in the fees - especially when I look at these "huge" motorhomes/RV's parked next/around me who are paying the same!

Helen - thank you for your offer and I may take you up on it upon my return.

All we need now is some decent weather - not too hot, not too windy and dry during the day - suspect I am asking for too much!

I got one off Ebay and its great, work a treat with small Genny! Easy clean just a wipe with kitchen roll (just wait till it cools first) Stores away flat.
