The Bongo is quite heavy on drop links. Get some high quality ones. Having gone down the 'economy' route with terrible results, I now have some Meyle HD ones on there. Four year guarantee. Whether they do actually last four years remains to be seen!

They've been on for two whole days.

Do a search on eBay for Meyle HD Bongo. £31.95 for the pair.

Here's what happened to my cheapo ones that were on for four months (£17 for the pair).



And here's the Meyle HD ones fitted (Made in Germany).



Thicker bar, feels very high quality, rubber boots are excellent. I am confident with these.

I just got a pair of these through the post too.
I've never swapped them myself before but I'm guessing it's a simple enough job to DIY ? Any tips?

I would be more concerned with what was happening in this area. Wear is abnormal.

In my experience, it's the rubbers that fail on these links, which then lets the water into the joint with the inevitable failure not long behind.

Back in March 2011 I fitted a set of links which I added an extra layer of protection to - sections of large bike inner-tube tywrapped to the link, covering the joint, full of grease.

I removed one of the innertube sections, and sure enough that link failed fairly quickly after. The rubber had split and weather had got in.

The remaining link from March 2011 is still going strong.

So, that's 2 1/2 years so far.

I'll let you know if I still have the van in 18 months!
