Juddering pulling away?

if I use the van for anything over 20-30 miles I get a bad juddering when taking off with the front wheels turned, now I had the front prop shaft removed thinking it was something in the 4 wheel drive system, but today was the first longish run, and the problem is still there, seems to come from the back wheels now, thought it was the front when the front prop shaft was connected, its always the passenger side though. the van also feels like is lost power when this happens as if a brake is caught on and over heated, I have had new rear disks and pads fitted, not for this problem just because they where worn.
As another point when turning forward or reversing there is a strange almost rubbing sound coming from the rear end.

Can I run with just the front prop to see if that cures it? at least it would rule out some parts!

Anyone got any ideas what to check next, going to check the oil in the rear diff though not sure that would cause this particular problem.

whats condition of rear shoes on drums

Could be one of your rear calipers seized, that happened on ours and the visible side of the disc was ok but the hidden side had been trashed.

Hi it has rear disks not drums? I have had new discs and pads on the rear and new pads on the front, I will try jacking it up to see if the wheels turn freely, as a side how does the handbrake work? is it onto the rear discs? or the front wheels.

Handbrake is onto small drums inside the rear discs

Didn`t realise they had rear drums inside the disks is that what you meant? how do I get to thoses.

Just take the wheel off, unbolt the caliper and pull the disc/drum off the hub.

It's not just the LSD is it
Mine has a limited slip differential on back axel
Which makes my rear wheel judder when pulling away on full lock

Hi I don't think this is normal as it only does it after a 20-30 mile run, I jacked the back end up and the rear wheels only move about 2-3 inches either way with a loud clank when it stops is that normal?

I took the fill plug out of the rear diff and the oil is very thin? I am sure I read somewhere on here its supposed to be really think?? is that right.

what are the metal plates for with the jack? wheel stops?

to check if you have a rear limited slip diff----------------------- jack up both rear wheels off the ground, turn one wheel, if the opposite rear wheel turns the opposite way its a normal diff. if it turns the same way its a limited slip diff.
the 2 types of diff do require different oils.

Interesting thread.

I sometimes run a vehicle with the handbrake very slightly on to dry out the brakes after washing it.
The first time I tried it with the Freda I got some shuddering which stopped when I released the brake.

I tried it again a few days ago, this time for a shorter period, maybe 2-3 minutes just to warm up the back brakes, no shuddering.

What tyre sizes do you have (the full reading)? You might have wound up the diff.

Hi all tyres are the same size can`t remember the exact numbers I will check later and post, just don`t really want to throw £400 plus at it to find out its something else!.
When the front prop shaft was connected it really felt like it was the front wheels doing it, but since its been disconnected it feels like the rear.
