I've broken something!
Hi all,
Last night I decided to look at the little rear foglight switch to the right of the steering wheel column, I wanted to take a look as the rear foglight was not coming on but the red light on the switch was per mantle on when the light were turned on via the stalk, this was the chain of events:
Removed rear foglight switch
Removed three cables attached to the switch with spade connections
Turned lights back on via stalk
Observed that I now didn't have dashboard lights
Checked headlights and they were working
Checked rear lights and they had also stopped working
When turning the stalk switch back one I also had no side lights
Put the foglight switch back together including spade connections (not sure what order they are to connected)
Still same issue
So by removing the rear foglight switch and connections I've gone from having all lights working to only having the headlights and main beam working, the following do not work
Sidelights
Dashboard lights
Rear lights
Rear foglight (although there was an issue with this before I started) but now red light at all
All fuses for days, sidelights and rear lights seem ok, the centre of the fuse is still intact
Any help appreciated!

This does seem odd.

Re: I've broken something!
im no sparky but it sounds like they may have taken the power supply for the rear fog light (red light on switch) from the relay that operates the side lights, by taking the 3 wires off the back of the switch you may have shorted them out/touched them together, this may have melted the side light relay contacts.
or it may have blown a fuse.
best to take it to a good auto lecky man.

Re: I've broken something!
Hi there. Hit the search looking for the answer to a problem I have with my bongo and came across this thread. Just been to Asda for a few bits all seemed well on the way there, lights working I presume, dash lights definitely working. Anyway grabbed a few bits and returned to the van, started fine but when I turned on the lights the dash lights were gone. On further investigation so were all rear lights including rear and front fogs. I am not sure if the side lights work didnt check them and its raining now so will do in the morning allong with the fuses. I am jot actually sure where to find the fuses or which to check so if anyone has got any advice on how to sort this problem and what to check I would be very greatful. Thank you CG

Re: I've broken something!
I suspect that you have shorted the wiring when removing them from back of the switch and blown a fuse. The three wires are as follows. One will be live when the lights are switched on. This is the supply to the switch. The second will be the live feed to the fog light. The third will be a wire that will be an earth, this supplies the earth required for the bulb inside the switch so that it has the positive and negative to enable it to illuminate when the switch is operated. This is why it is likely that you've blown a fuse as it would be easy to touch live to earth when pulling these connectors off.

Yup the likely fuse to have blown is under the bonnet;

Re: I've broken something!
Been out this morning and looked at the van and the side lights don't work either. I called the garage where the bongo was purchased and he told me which fuse to check. Which is not under the bonnet but under the steering column. If you have a similar problem the culprit Fuse as you look at them is on the top row and the 5th fuse from the left. It says 15 amp tail next to it. I'm going to get a replacement or 2 and see if the fogs blow it again. If they do I am going back to the garage so they can check it out for me. Hope that helps someone cheers CG

Re: I've broken something!
Ah yes that would be useful. I have a 2.0 litre bongo. Didn't think about how they may hide the fuses in different places depending on which bongo you have. If you have a newer 2.0 litre bongo and your instrument, side, rear and fog lights stop working then the fuse is under the steering column, top row 5th fuse from the left. Says 15 amp tail next to it.
Probably be useful for someone to say where that fuse is for other bongo types seen as this is the thread I was sent to when I asked about it in the search bar

Re: I've broken something!
I have a 2003 2.0 litre bongo. I have replaced the fuse and blown it again figuring out that the problem is with the front fogs. So I can say with certainty that if you have a 2003 2.0 litre bongo the fuse you need is where I said. Hope someone finds this information useful. Cheers CG

Re: I've broken something!
after the usual check the bulbs the usual problem with the front fog lights is the wiring loom rots away as it catches the weather at the front, if you take the drivers side headlight out the wires to the front fogs runs at the lower edge of the headlight hole, it usually rots at a plug thats lurking there.
Re: I've broken something!
Dark now but will check that out tomorrow after work. All is ok now so long as I don't touch the front fog switch. Thank you

Re: I've broken something!
Sorry for the brief post earlier, I was on the tablet and rushed - so deleted it about 5 seconds after posting!
The Wiring Manuals we have only go up to the 4th version which started 1999-09 obviously they have made some significant changes after that as to the layout, yet again
Hoping to get the above version out over this winter.
It sounds like if I ever get round to 2001+ I'll have to get another set of photo's as well sorted for the fuses!

Re: I've broken something!
After I saw your post with the picture last night I went out this morning sure I was going to fix it. I have the fuse box under the bonnet and it is exactly the same as your picture. I checked all the fuses and they were fine. That's when I called the garage and he told me where to look. I honestly thought that because all the fuses were fine that it was going to be something serious. My vans still under warranty with the garage so I wasn't too bothered, but it's still a 80 mile round trip which would have been a pain in the ass. You can imagine my relief when it did turn out to be just a fuse.
I think this set up is rather dangerous. I was sure that the fuse on lights operated left and right side individually. When I left Asda I thought that I only had a problem with the dash lights and fogs because main beam was on. I drove home in the dark with no rear lights without realising :/

Re: I've broken something!
I see that you have put a lot of work into providing information about the bongos electrics. So if the electrics have changed reguarding lights should I presume that all the electrics have changed? I mean, I read something about shorting pins to find engine fault codes. Should I do this? You seem the best person to ask. Cheers GC
