Project - Retrim and new paint

I thought I would create a page for my project.

I bought this a couple of months ago and have been busy sorting out the interior.

Most of the interior has been stripped and I have started recovering the plastic trim in vinyl and painting the side panels as well as fitting Alfa GTV seats.




Last night I recovered the headlining which was a tricky job, but it looks good in black. To do this I first coated the existing material in fibreglass resin, let it cure and then stuck the headlining material to this using spray contact adhesive. I'll post some pictures later.

I was going to wrap the car myself but as there are quite a few scratches, rust spots and bents here and there it will be painted as I think this will be more cost effective and longer lasting. The colour I'm going for is ford burnished glow (see below).

I will probably get it painted at Pumabuild (I used them in the past for my fast fords - and they have a bodyshop - and oven) and their work looks very good and it will cost circa £2k for a repaint.

How hard were the Alpha seats to fit?

To fit the Alfa seats I basically cut the bottom of the bongo seat off and welded it to the bottom of the Alfa seat (runners removed). This allows you to utilise the bongo runners. I also had to cut and weld the inner backrest pivot/bracket as it was a bit too wide. Overall, the seat is a bit too high, so not ideal but more comfortable than the standard seat.

Engine cover carpet - tried glueing on that stretchy unbacked carpet and it worked! Just finished the passenger side in dark anthracite and it looks good. I'll take some pics in the morning

Engine cover re-carpeted by gluing on that stretchy non-backed carpet lining. It sticks onto the original carpet really well and the un-backed carpet can be shaped to fit around the engine cover. Need to remove the drivers seat and do the other side now.

I also used the same material for the headlining as it is easy to work with and you can stretch it around curves.

Below is one of the interior panels that I painted matt black, material replaced with vinyl and new carpet.


I have also insulated the inside using double sided foil bubble wrap, which is glued and taped in place. I'm not going overboard as I don't want issues with condensation.


Can someone help with identifying this (rear o/s corner)...

That's gonna be an inverta with them cables going to it
Carefull might be 110v / 240v live coming out of that

It's not the roof controller and Google draws a blank for 'back allright'.

If it's a factory fit inverter there will be a socket to plug your organ in as seen here on second photo down

I found the roof box unit, so its not that.
The Back Allright is the size of an iphone and the cables are very thin, so I don't think its an inverter. I'll have to trace the wires and maybe unplug it to see what stops working!

Could be a parking distance device, makes sense in the rear?
