windows 10 woes

Talk about non-Bongo stuff. BUT KEEP IT CLEAN....there are children watching. Smut, filth, and anything offensive will not be tolerated and removed immediately.

windows 10 woes

Post by andyb36 » Wed Sep 16, 2015 11:50 am

hi all

I love windows 10 and so far up until yesterday - didn't have a problem

tried to load an old game of mine witcher

loaded game - all fine until I went to play

it didn't recognise- or wouldn't read the disk

hmmm - tried an old dvd film ( its a dvdrw drive etc ) again you can access video files but it will not read disk to play film

searched net and it states get vlc older player for the films - but for games

any game that's not now supported with updates etc will not place because of file security

I can understand that - I like windows 10 to much to revert back to 7

time to move on and bin some old stuff lol - or get the bits ready for car booting

rant over

Along with the continual adverts for initially MS products that your not using, then when they can get more revenue from others by sharing with there "partners" (to get round data sharing) for there products.

as I am only a home user for media etc etc

ive spent years on free software - copy this copy that

after all the diddling I bought windows 7 ultimate

 was for a dell 64 bit -- I used it for my home built home media pc

then ching ching free win 10

mackle that with youtube downloader and I have music videos galore

stick em on a memory stick and boom - on my bongo screen front and rear

still plenty of free stuff to be had - for home use

got my friends sky go log in -- woop woop - f1 and all sky channels for free

so to be honest - I did chuck 10.99 to make my dvd player to run ( BUT IT STILL DIDNT WORK )

I cant complain

Same here...seduced into upgrading for free, only to find the evening dvd whilst on tour wouldn't play anymore.
Apart from buying the dvd player, the annoying part was spending time trying to figure out why it wouldn't work! ](*,)

ow yeh - my main buggar was that it read dvd - data and would load the game from a dvd disk - 6 gb

then just couldn't understand why it wouldn't run after

found that some dmg drg ? programme file were not supported any more - and you could be hacked because game was no longer supported

as for the dvd film - very annoying - I bought the dvd playing ( 11.99 )- but did actually have the free version because I had 7 ultimate

and still doesn't work lol

ahh well - win some - loose some

but I have to try an older VLC player direct from VLC and not free version from ms app store ( which only plays data media - not dvd

So....I bought a Yoga 2 all-in-one laptop/tablet a few months back. It came with Win 8.1 and I couldn't see how to play DVDs at all. I managed to download a 3rd party product (VLC was it?) and although it seems to have a rather flaky interface it can be persuaded to play my shop bought DVDs. I'd love something slicker though.

I'm now being invited to upgrade my Yoga for free to Win 10. Should I go ahead and do it? I've not put much on the Yoga (OpenOffice, DVD player, expired trial of Office 365, Avast anti-virus, and some stuff for stopping those irritating pop up price comparison things on Amazon etc.). Will installing Win10 result in me having to reinstall all that stuff? And how can I get back quickly to being able to play DVDs etc?

I gather too that Win10 doesn't allow you to stop automatic upgrades - should that concern me?

Any advice from younger cleverer people who have done a similar upgrade to Win10 would be gratefully received. :P

as I am one of those younger person lol -

I love it - I could just reboot my win 7 ultimate and have all and everything workin - to which I will have the option if needed

go with it mike

they state you can revert back if you wish

I cant see how with out a full new install

it is internet based

games - films - etc

I think ms are catering for the media world

as said earlier - you can turn bits off here and there - just not for me - im not bothered

I think when you start that game - no point moving on

and then youll start having problems

but that my opinion - im happy so far with it

may kick me back one day - but for now

Thanks for the (quick!) advice Andy. Probably will bite the bullet soon and do it. Any thoughts on a free 3rd party DVD player I could install to work once in Win10 or am I best buying Win Media Player for the job? Like you, I hate(d) paying for stuff if I could get it free. I do a bit in MS Access but the cost of Office Professional is way out of my league for my piddling personal use so guess I'll be out of that one when I had in my work laptop upon retirement :-(

My line has been to download Win 10 and save it on CD and memory sticks see:
https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/softwar ... /windows10

Then remove the annoying Win10 patch on the existing installs as well as the telemetry patches they added recently, open a cmd window in Admin mode and run these commands;
start /wait wusa /uninstall /kb:3035583 /norestart
start /wait wusa /uninstall /kb:3068708 /norestart
start /wait wusa /uninstall /kb:3022345 /norestart
start /wait wusa /uninstall /kb:3075249 /norestart
start /wait wusa /uninstall /kb:3080149 /norestart

Then at some point in the year from when Win10 was released I can still install Win10 free, probably install it as a second operating system so that its done in the free period and then I can always change back to a single Win10 install for free at any point in the future with the registration details.
