Wing arch trims

Hello

Has anyone fitted Wing arch trims to their Bongo? Set of four costs around £65. Good idea or no ?

Personally,I dont think so,but thats just my opinion.

They can trap moisture at the back,and given the rust problem that Bongo arches have,I wouldnt want to add to the problem. But as said,thats just my take on it,albeit they can look good.I had em on my AFT,but they were pre-fitted by a previous owner.

Just hiding the problem of rusty arches in most cases
If it fails it's mot on sharp edges
Just put some gaffa tape over the rusty edges for retest

Yea but no but. If you've done a solid structural repair on rusty arches using resin and glasscloth like wot i have done (with a masked line similar to a wheel arch trim) then instead of a lot of pain and effort trying to make the repair invisible by rubbing down then respraying to blend old paint into new, you might decide a quicker option is to fit wheel arch trims and make a feature out of the repaired area. Trims should not however be used (but often are) where rust is starting and you think that by slapping something like arch trims over it, rusting will magically stop. Sort the rust first, then consider trims. But, having saved £800+ and a Bongo off the road by not forking out on replacement metal wings, you can afford to fork out on even the Mazda super expensive trims

The arches are tip top with no rust so this is a preventative measure rather than an attempt to hide anything.

From my understanding of the "rusty arch" syndrome suffered by Bongos , it starts from the inside and in between the spot welded flange.
Better course of action may be to super soak the interiors of the arch with Waxoyl or clean engine oil and save yourself a few bob.

I poured loads of k rust ( rust killer ) inside mine
Got a long thin brush to reach right done inside panels to swill all the k rust liquid about
Was going to take it for a ride to swill it about more
But when I got out all the k rust liquid had just run out over me rear tyres ( and my arches were perfect )
There's a small gap
The inner and outer skins are just spot welded

So don't use a runny liquid like I did
Waxoyl should be thick enough to not run out

On the other hand Gasy you got the protection in between those spot welds so probably a good thing. Maybe runny first then thick stuff to follow, maybe.

As others have said, rust starts from within. So the only thing trims will do is prevent you from seeing it soon enough to take preventative action.

Yes but I'd put a cover over wheels / floor next time I use it and think I will spray it in
