New arrival Awning

Post by Bongolia » Fri Dec 02, 2016 8:51 pm

This arrived today. Fiamme 45 2.6L Weighs in at a mere 29KG.
I have not unwrapped it yet but if that is whats hanging on the gutter then that`s what contributing to the rot int top.

Hi,

I have the same awning and did wonder if the current reports of roof rot might be caused by the weight of a gutter mounted awning cracking a seal, allowing water to be wicked in. This then spreads, encouraged by warming and re-condensing.
Its not so much whether there is currently an awning on there - the van could have had one fitted in Japan for years.
Just my theory!

There used to be a forum member called Rooster. He made some excellent brackets that fitted under the AFT cover hooks so no weight on the gutter. Think somebody (possibly AVA) are doing something similar.

I am pretty sure you are right. This side is pretty stressed as it is, awning hanging on there wouldnt help.
Thanks for the tip. I will check it out. No sense in reinventing the wheel. =D> :D
