I have no router
Hi all
Can anyone think of a Cunning way to cut the 2mm recess in to the edge of plywood for the trim, without using a router?
I don't have one and I can't find one to borrow and have spent all my cash on the van.
Any ideas welcome.
Olly

You can use mine if you're near here.

Southern England, near Worthing?
Re: I have no router
Geoff, do we know anyone in Worthing with a router?

Do t worry. I can put a shout out on Facebook. I just wondered whether there was another way.
I only have a meter or so of edge that needs doing.

I'm sure Geoff will get back to you shortly. He's in Worthing and has a router. I'll draw his attention to this discussion.

Poor old Geoff. Would have been less work for him if he'd just converted my van himself
Re: I have no router
I'm sure he can do that for you as well. He's very helpful.

Olly, if you were living closer to me, I'd gladly give you a hand with your van, I have nothing better to do anyway.
Hopefully someone will sort you out.
Cheers, Rick.

No I've not got one either
Always loved the idea if getting into woodwork more but too many other things keep cropping up to do!

Could you carefully run a soldering iron round?

Re: I have no router
I guess if you don’t have a router it’s unlikely you have a rebate plane although 2mm is pretty small for that
I think this could be accomplished with a couple of saws alongside each other to make up the 2mm width (assuming that’s the rebate width). I’d probably guide the saws with a block of wood. A circular saw would also work with a guide (might need spacing) but this approach will be somewhat risky and potentially dangerous if the plywood is big, thin or this is an edge cut (for knock on edging for example)
Even a few Stanley blades glued together held in a g-cramp with something to guide should probably work if you don’t have metres to do
Hopefully this is some help and I’ve not totally misunderstood

Can look very nice.

Drill a row of holes, close together, to the depth you need, without going all the way through, clean it out with a chisel, clean it up with a file? But it's neater - and easier - to borrow a router, or get someone to cut it for you. There may be a neighbourhood FB group for where you live. A neighbour might have one.
