Diesel Heater and stand pipe

Hi all. I've recently been installing a Planar 2D diesel heater and have encountered a few problems. I have the heater under the passenger seat, the pump close by, taking a tee from the bongo fuel line under the drivers seat. It worked fine a few times but after I fixed everything in place the burner just wont fire up. The heater goes through 2 attempts and the shuts down. The burner never comes on, only the fan. Tried it numerous times. If I bypass the fuel line and take diesel straight from a 5L can, it works. I tried everything I could yesterday but no luck. I am now thinking to take a feed from the fuel tank via a stand pipe. If I can access the hatch in the rear of the bongo, will I be able to do this without dropping the tank? Thanks for any help offered.

Sounds like the pump is not coping with the static lift ,you could try the pump closer to the filter.

Thanks Rita. That was the last thing I tried yesterday. I moved the pump over to the drivers side. No difference.

If this is like the Eberspacher/Webasto heaters the angle the pump sits at is important to correct operation, Is it mounted in the correct orientation?

Hi Rita. Yes in the engine bay near the T piece. Wasn't sure if it was best for the pump to be closer to the T piece or the heater so tried both.

Hi Nth. Yes, I was really careful about orientating the pump correctly. Works fine with the 5L diesel can, just not with the fuel line.

Thank you both for replying.

Less convenient, but would it be worth fitting a small, extra, tank for the heater?

Only if all else fails.

Hi Bob. I have thought about that but it's finding room that will be difficult. I have a leisure battery, so no room there. If I could find room, I think it would have to be a tiny tank. But yes, if all else fails then that will have to do.

Personally at this stage I would test the pump for vacuum/suction, you might have an under performing pump.

PS your T should be on the suction line to the fuel filter.

On the subject of tiny tanks, I could only find space for a 2.5L tank on my v6. I’ve seen some bigger ones near the radiator but I wasn’t that keen on it being there. It’s still 10 hours on full whack and I think the most I used on old diesel one was for an hour to warm up in an evening and morning

Where did you fit the tank?

Don’t have a pic to hand fitted but here

Made a bracket to attach to front support but that runs across above radiator
