what type of screw/fixing is on the rear number plate light ?

Post by alze » Thu Sep 04, 2025 1:46 pm

Hi Bongonauts,
Working thru the list of MoT things on my bongo - one warning was the number plate light, if I can i'd like to change it, but for looking I cannot tell what type of screw/fixing it is !

Does anyone know first hand, i dont want to butcher the screw if I can help it.

Thanks

Your link tries to force me to register with google pictures. It would be a lot easier if you just posted the picture here, if you look down the page you will see you can click on Attachments and upload your image.

As otherwise I then get bombarded with spam posts from google pictures for all there advertising!

Ah yes that style, lots of penetrating oil then try to get a well fitting screwdriver into the slot and hope it hasn't rusted too much I've used an impact screwdriver to get them moving but you need the style with a thin body or a robust extender arm to get the blade into that position.

Oohh, that looks like a potential pain.
In such cases I search for the best fitting screwdriver I can find, and applying as much ‘push down pressure’ as I can, I carefully try to get it moving.
Again, I also find a well place whack or two before hand, carefully applied obviously, can assist in loosening things.
On rare occasions I’ve had to resort to banging a suitable sized torx screwdriver or torx bit into it to get the required purchase and shift it.
Good luck 👍

The Bongo uses JIS screws (Japanese Industry Standard).

Almost like Phillips, but it’s worth getting the correct screwdriver, especially for rusted in ones.
Take a torch, toilet roll, and tea bags.
