Over heating

I just had a new water pump fitted today, and after 2 miles suffered major over heating. Steam and bubbling away. I let it cool and topped the water up. When the engine was turned back on and left to run for 5-10 minutes, the temp stayed at the normal 11 o'clock osition on the guage. When driving away though the temperature shot right up.
Any ideas - please ?

Airlock, do a search for correct filling procedure.

Thats what I think - the garage is sure it did everything on the members fact sheets though.

I agree, sounds like you need to bleed the coolant system

Would it overheat in neutral with an air lock?

When ours suffered an airlock, it overheated very quickly

Sat in park ticking over or reving - the temp guage remained normal and only shot up when driving away

I would not run engine too much till you get the problem sorted

Hi Big E
On tickover or no load, there is minimal fuel going into the cylinders whereas, when under load, there is a load of fuel going into the cylinders. More fuel = more power = more heat. That is why it overheats when driving.

The member's factsheet isn't entirely correct - you need to get the correct procedure from the manual or download from NZ bongo site

I have just heard back from the garage.
They have bled the system and refillerd. The engine was then switched on and left to run for 20 minutes. Bubbles kept being blown into the overflow tank, but the temperature remained at normal.
They plan to take it for a drive tomorrow.
The constant flow of bubbles - can anyone help ?

It really does sound as if they haven't bled the system fully - are they aware of the bleed pipe and correct procedure?
